Dance Play with Roxane Letterlough
The dance play with Roxane Letterlough was fun, as well as eye opening. I learned that there are many ways I can incorporate Indigenous teachings into my own teachings without appropriating. It is not just about the First Peoples Principles of Learning and learning holistically, we as teachers can incorporate specific dance play into our teachings that teach students about the important creatures of Indigenous peoples. Students can have fun, and learn at the same time, without appropriating any cultures.
Dr. Ivan Joseph Presentation – Leadership, Inclusion, and Championing your Best Self
A lot of this presentation was centred around optimism and your alignment with people and organizations. Your alignment and an organization’s alignment have to be similar, if not the same, or you will both continue to clash. You need a plan, and need to be optimistic about that plan. That does not mean there won’t be rainy days. Your experience through failure will test your grit and resilience. Be aware of the people you surround yourself with; don’t let them change you, and be purpose driven. This whole presentation was really uplifting and motivated me to keep striving in life, and keep pushing towards my goals.
Western Wisconsin Educators Conference
The 2022 Western Wisconsin Educators Conference that was held online was a beneficial experience to me in the mental health field. For this conference, I got to pick and choose different panels I would like to see during select times. I always want to learn more about mental health in a way that can benefit myself and my students in the classroom. I also chose an LGBTQ+ through US History panel, and although it had US history tied into it, the LGBTQ+ portions of it were very beneficial. I am also able to compare and contrast the US history to the Canadian history that I know.
